Day 5    April 28, 2006

Read:  Psalms 16

Reflection:
This Psalm speaks of the hope we have as God’s faithful people, and also of the Messiah being resurrected. It is literally the song of resurrection. There are a total of twenty Psalms that are considered Messianic Psalms; in this chapter we see the reference in verse 10,
“For you will not leave my soul in Sheol (Hell). Nor will you allow Your Holy One to see corruption”.
You will note that this Psalm is called “A Michtam of David.” This statement is of uncertain origin, although Martin Luther translated it as “a golden jewel” which is probably very close, so we could call this Psalm “The Golden Jewel of David.” In this Psalm he is speaking of his coming Lord and Savior who will come through his descendents, born of a woman, crucified and raised from the dead. His focus here is on the finished work of Jesus Christ.
We should remember to pray for others that they would realize Jesus came to the earth to die and then be raised to eternal life. The grave could not hold Him.

Adoration:
“You will show me the path of life; In your presence is fullness of joy; at Your right hand are pleasures forever more” verse 11.
Our Lord is giving us all the direction that we need for living our lives. “He will show us the path of life” not only here, but also for our lives in eternity. We also have the fullness of joy given freely to us both here and in eternity, and it is free. Last but not least are the pleasures He has for us now and in the next life. What more could we ask for. PTL.

Confession:
“My goodness is nothing apart from you” verse 2b
Lord, we sometimes think that our goodness is pleasing to you, but help us to remember that if we are not abiding in you, it means nothing to you, and we need to confess our sin.
In Rom. 12:3 it says we are “not to think of ourselves more highly than we ought to think.”  Help us, Lord, to always remain in You.

Thanksgiving:
“O Lord, You are the portion of my inheritance and my cup; You maintain my lot. The lines have fallen to me in pleasant places; Yes, I have an inheritance” verse 5-6.
We have the best inheritance in this universe, life eternal with our God and Creator.

Supplication:
“Preserve me, O God, for in You I put my trust” verse 1. This is a frequent request, begging God to protect him. We should do likewise.

Closing Prayer:
Dear Lord, we praise You for your abounding love, Your ability to protect us and save us from our sins. Help us to always put our trust in You, and to share Your love with others.
