Day 4    April 27, 2006

Read:  Psalm 2

Reflection:  With all that is happening in the world, especially now, believers may ask: "Lord, are you in control of all of this?  Where are you?”  As we see the nations rage during our time, we wonder, “Where is the Lord in all of this?” David writes God's answer in Psalm 2.  In this chapter we see a conversation of God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit in a three-way dialogue discussing man's willfulness. We can take comfort in the fact that God is always in control.
Verses 1-3. Discuss the nations (or heathen) in their attempt to thwart God's rule. The kings of the earth shout in defiance, "Let us break their bands sunder, and cast away their cords from us."
Verses 4-6. Gives God the Father's response to that arrogant statement: He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh:  the LORD shall have them in derision.
Verses 7-9 is from Jesus Christ, as he has already been declared king.  Jesus rules!
Verses 10-12 is instruction from the Holy Spirit to us. Be wise! Serve the Lord! Kiss the Son! Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.
Adoration:  Even though we see terrorism in the world, the nations in upheaval in the world, we need to be reminded that God knows this and is in control!  Here we have a passage written 2400 years ago which is apropos to our age.  Blessed is the LORD!
Confession: We have a tendency as Christians to be fearful of the events of our time. What are the nations doing?  Why is there so much upheaval?  We tend to be fearful, worry, wring our hands in anxiety regarding our walk on this earth. We get ulcers, we take anti-anxiety medications. We must remember that we are only sojourners in this land. Our true citizenship lies in heaven with our Father.
Thanksgiving:  Isn't it wonderful that we have a God that is in control?  We are His kids.  He takes care of us. He will give us boldness to speak in this age--if we ask! We are free from worry about terrorism, the plight of the nations.  God has His hand over the leaders of the nations.  He laughs at their prideful declarations.
Supplication: Acts 4:24-30 gives us a great way to pray for guidance from God.  In this chapter, the disciples use today’s psalm to support them in speaking boldly during the times of trial. Notice they did not ask that the government be changed by God, but rather, that they are to speak boldly in the current culture.
Please read Acts 4: 24-30 back to God as your closing prayer! God bless you!
