Day 20   May 13, 2006

Read:  Psalm 20

Reflection: This Psalm is a great encouragement when facing difficulties in life.   When we view our problems from God's point of view, they become small indeed.
The Psalmist begins by praying for you.  "May the LORD answer you in the day of trouble."  He doesn't say that as a child of God, God's "anointed", that we will not have trouble.  Trouble is a carving tool used by God to shape us into the image of Christ and to increase our faith.  We will have trouble but the LORD JEHOVAH will answer you in the day of trouble.  This whole Psalm is a song of adoration to God for His ability to deliver us from trouble.
We have a tendency to let life's trouble get us down.  We become discouraged and disheartened.  We forget about the God who delivered Israel on so many occasions.  We have a tendency to forget about the God who has saved us from trouble on so many occasions.  We also have a tendency, after praying to God for deliverance, to boast in ourselves when the day of deliverance comes.  Or, we do not even stop to give God praise and glory for His deliverance.
Set up your banners.  Sing for Joy.  Shout for Joy.  Boast in the Lord for His deliverance from trouble.  He has brought you out before.  He will do it again.  He knows how.  Some of you may be going through a season of trouble today.  I encourage you to boast in the Lord.  Brag on the Lord's deliverance.  Recall the times He has delivered you in the past.  Brag on Him for these times of deliverance.  Boast in Him.  Do it now.  Do it today.  He will bring you out again.  And if, in His Sovereign will, He chooses to allow this season to be lengthy, rest assured that God is doing something good.  Boast in Him.  Brag on Him.  Your Deliverer is coming.  Tell someone how good the Lord is, even when you are facing difficulties.

Adoration:  I boast in Your Name, O, Lord.

Confession:  Lord, forgive me for my lack of faith at times.  I allow the troubles of this world to distract me from honoring You with my words and actions.  My faith is weak.  I choose to trust in You.

Thanksgiving:  Recall some specific times He delivered people in Scripture and some times He has delivered you in the past.  Thank Him for those experiences, for His faithfulness in times of trouble.

Supplication: Are you or someone you know experiencing a season of trouble?  It may be sickness.  It may be financial problems.  It may be any number of things.  Would you stop now and pray for this individual or for yourself?

Lord, answer ME (or someone else) in this day of trouble.  Set ME (them) securely on High.  Send ME (them) help from the sanctuary and support ME (them) from Zion.  Remember all my prayers and let my offerings be acceptable to You, O Lord.  Lord, grant my heart's desire!  We will sing for joy over Your victory, and in the name of our God we will set up our banners.  LORD, fulfill all our petitions.  “Now I know that the LORD saves His anointed; He will answer me from His holy heaven with the saving strength of His right hand.   Some boast in chariots and some in horses, But we will boast in the name of the LORD, our God. They have bowed down and fallen, but we have risen and stood upright.   Save, O LORD; May the King answer us in the day we call.”
