Day 19 May 12, 2006
Read: Psalm 61
Reflection: “Hear my cry, O God; Give heed to my prayer.” The cry of our hearts to God comes from intimacy. We can trust that when we come into His presence, He can deal with the needs we bring… “Lead me to the Rock that is higher than I am.” Jesus is higher than any problem that we can bring to Him. He is “a tower of strength against the enemy.” Oh my, how we sometimes forget and try to carry things in our own strength… big things and little things… things that weigh us down. Today is a day to give over those things to the Rock that is higher than we are. Today, let’s give our lives to Jesus for some fine tuning and let Him carry the burdens of our lives, our health, finances, jobs, relationships, etc. In His presence, there is great protection and peace. We desire to abide in this place before God, for all the days of our lives. “Under the shadow of His wings,” we appropriate “loving kindness, and truth.” Here, we are equipped to meet the demands of our busy lives.
Adoration: I will abide before God forever. I will sing praise to You forever!!! I will do this day by day!!!
Confession: Forgive me Lord when I have been consumed and immobilized with my problems, and I have forgotten to bring these things for You to tend…My Rock who is My tower of strength. I am not equipped to carry my load, but You are. Please take the weight of these burdens from me and replace them with joy, peace and faith that You are working things out.
Thanksgiving: Thank You, for You have heard my prayer, O God. You have given me the inheritance of those who fear You.
Supplication: Ask God to help you to:
- Abide continually in His presence
- Ask the Holy Spirit to guide you back to the Rock that is higher than you when your thoughts stray;
- Ask Him to fill you with His loving kindness and truth, which will preserve you, day by day.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, hear the cry of my heart, and hear my prayer. Help me to abide in You, fleeing from my own thought life which often consumes me and leads me away from You. Help me to recognize when I do this, and quickly give these things over to You. Fill me with Your thoughts that are higher than my thoughts. Establish me on the Rock of my salvation and prepare me for the service You have called me to do, and help me to lean on You for understanding, for Your ways are higher than my ways. As I do this, equip me to encourage others toward You, the Rock that is higher than they are. We all are so desperate for You. In Jesus Wonderful and Powerful Name, Amen
